2 Peter 1:19-20 "And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation." ESV

No prophecy of Scripture (nothing that scripture foretold) is from someone’s own interpretation. The things that Isaiah wrote and other’s about the coming of the Messiah was not made up. Peter says, these things we are telling you about Jesus are not an interpretation of ours. To hear this gives me great hope because that same argument is being had in our world and in our church family today. The view that men made up the bible (Scripture) were not true then and they are not true today. Here’s another cool thing (okay so I’m old, I still say cool) the scriptures haven’t changed, it’s still telling the same account today as Peter did then. Truth doesn’t have to change, think about that for a moment.

2 Peter 1:21 "For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." ESV

Nothing, not any word of prophecy that was spoken and then captured for us in the Bible was said from man’s will. Daniel didn’t just wake up one morning and say, you know I think I’ll write of the end times today. I’ll not understand it and it will make me sick but I’ll make it up anyway. Paul didn’t just decide he would write letters to people completely contradicting his believes in the Temple worship and our relation ship with God. Peter didn’t just throw his nets down and go to the cross because he made up all his teaching.

They spoke from God’s giving them what they were to say and write by the Holy Spirit. They spoke from the power of God not the everchanging thoughts of man.

2 Peter 2:1 "But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. " ESV

I love that God didn't just paint a pie in the sky. By the way, what does that mean anyway? I've never seen a pie in the sky, awe, so maybe there is not those things either. So Have you ever seen a pie in the sky? Maybe I don't want to know.

Okay back to this, God leaves nothing out for us. There are false prophets among us, there are people who teach false doctrine. It was happening then it's happening today and will till Jesus comes a gain. How do you know them? Line up what they say with the bible, not what they tell you the bible says but read it for yourself and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to you. Read the Bible yourself, there's a thought.

2 Peter 2:2-3 "And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep." ESV

Their condemnation from long ago “is not idle”. God hasn’t forgotten. Their destruction “is not asleep”. The carrying out of their judgement is coming. But who are they? Who was hell really meant for? Satan and all the fallen angles that followed him. So too, one day all the people who have followed the teachings of satan (by the way all these false teaching are from him as he is the father of all lies) will also be cast onto the lake of fire. Not meant for them but is the consequence of sin without the forgiveness that trust and faith in Jesus brings.

2 Peter 1:19 "And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts," ESV

Have you ever been out in the dark with a light? You use it too light your way and you must pay attention to it, It can’t light your way if your not. That’s also true with God’s word, if we don’t pay attention to it then it can’t light your way in this very dark world filled with sin and pain. That’s why God gave it to us to light our way to the Light of the world Jesus. Then following His light which leads to real life here and forever more. But we must pay attention and follow. Oh, one more thing about this light, unlike the light we carry with us that can go out, Jesus’ light will never go out. You can walk out of it, but it will never go out on you.

Ephesians 1:3-4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him." ESV

God choose us before the foundation of the world was laid by Him. Yea, He choose to send Jesus His son to give forgiveness and restore the relationship with God that was severed by sin. He chose to allow us to be saved through our receiving Jesus as our Lord and King by surrendering to Him. He chose to give us eternal life with Him in Heaven where there will never be pain, sorrow or sin ever again. He chose all this before He created us, yea before we sinned against Him there in the Garden because He saw it all. Yet His desire and love for you and I to have a relationship with Him was so strong He choose to create us anyway. God chose.

Ephesians 1:5-6 "In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved." ESV

We are adopted according to His will, not mans. God set the way through which we could be saved. He established and gave the sacrifice required by Him for forgiveness of sin. Man had nothing to do with this, his role was what created the need for God to act by committing sin. God didn’t sin, He didn’t create sin, nor did He cause us to sin. God just poured out His never- ending grace on us because we did. Our adoption is not left up to mankind to determine. It is by God’s divine purpose through His Son, Jesus that we are.
