James 4: 4 "You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." ESV
You can't serve 2 masters. The world hates God so to be friends with it is to be against God. We are to live in this world but not be of this world. That doesn't mean to be haughty because the only thing that makes us different is that we are saved by grace by Jesus. So, as the song says "let others see Jesus in you".
